This is a unique opportunity to attend an intensive beginner’s summer course in the Catalan language here in Scotland. The course will be delivered by Agnès Rubirola, a teacher from Catalonia with over 30 years experience teaching the Catalan Language and Literature, initially in secondary schools and since 2003 in Adult Education. This course has been organised under the auspices of Scotland’s Catalan Centre and comprises eight 150-minute sessions. It will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings (6.15-8.45pm) in August 2019 at the Tollcross Community Centre in Edinburgh.
Catalan Language Course for beginners, August 2019 in Edinburgh
This is an intensive summer course (20 hours of teaching over 8 sessions of 2.5 hours each) for adult beginners in the Catalan language delivered by a very experienced teacher from Catalonia. The classes take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout August 2019 at the Tollcross Community Centre, 117 Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, EH3 9QG.

What is the Catalan language?
Catalan belongs to the Romance family of languages, descended from Latin and is therefore related to other European languages such as French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian. It is the native language of most people who live in Catalonia, a country in the north-eastern corner of the Iberian peninsula with 4 provinces of Tarragona, Barcelona, Lleida and Girona. The language is also spoken in Valencia, around Perpignan in France, in the Balearic Islands (Majorca and Menorca) and in part of Sardinia.
